Game to Prevent Mental Health Issues Wins Impact Challenge 2024!

A card game that helps teens open up about their emotions – that’s the winning idea from this year’s Impact Challenge final at Jönköping University on Wednesday, September 25th. Huge shout-out to Team Mood Scape, who scored the top prize of SEK 15,000 from Tillväxtstiftelsen (The Growth Foundation) in Jönköping County!

 

Earlier in the week, more than 180 students from JIBS and JTH kicked off the competition, ready to take on some of society’s toughest challenges with creativity and entrepreneurship. This year’s theme, “Social Entrepreneurship,” was introduced by Tove Greve from Ansvaret, an organization focused on helping businesses make a real impact through social responsibility.

Impact Challenge: Inspiring Sustainable Business Ideas

Impact Challenge is an annual competition that focuses on creating solutions to real-world issues. This year’s theme was “Health and Wellbeing,” and students teamed up to brainstorm and pitch business ideas to a panel of judges, all within just two days. Six teams made it to the final round.

Here’s a quick look at the final projects:

💡 Seed – A Digital Sex Education Platform

Seed is an app designed to offer a safe space for teens to learn about sex education and safe practices. The platform includes interactive tools, a chatbot and a way for parents to get involved in educating their kids.

🃏 Mood Scape – A Game for Emotional Intelligence

Mood Scape is a card game that helps teens express and manage their emotions. Using emotion cards and scenarios, players learn about empathy and self-awareness in a fun and engaging way.

 

🍬 Saturday Goodies – Healthy Weekend Treats

Saturday Goodies offers families a healthier alternative to traditional weekend candy. The kit lets them create tasty snacks using local, sustainable ingredients, with fun recipes that kids and adults can make together.

🧠 21-Day Emotional Intelligence Challenge

This 21-day challenge provides families with tools to boost empathy and communication through practical exercises and reflections. The aim is to prevent mental health issues by developing emotional intelligence early, while also strengthening parent-child relationships.

♿ Rollacare – Affordable Walkers for Seniors

For many seniors, finding an affordable walker can be a challenge. Rollacare provides refurbished and second-hand walkers through an online platform, and even hosts DIY events where seniors can learn to maintain their own equipment. It’s a sustainable and affordable solution that also fosters community.

🌿 ScentSync – Smart Scent Diffuser

ScentSync combines aromatherapy with smart technology to help seniors manage stress and anxiety. It’s a scent diffuser connected to a heart rate monitor, which releases calming scents when it detects stress, helping to create a more peaceful daily routine.

The jury, consisting of Tomas Hagvall (chair, Science Park), Emelie Ramsö (Länsförsäkringar Jönköping) , Prof. Dr. Leona Achtenhagen (Jönköping University), and Frida Lygnegård (School of Health and Welfare, Jönköping University), was particularly impressed by Mood Scape. Here’s why:

 

The winning team presented a bold and simple solution to a critical issue faced by teenagers today. Their idea is practical, based on solid research, and has great potential to make a real impact on their target group. The presentation was convincing, and the idea stood out for its feasibility and potential to make a difference.

The Winning Team Walked Away with SEK 15,000 from Tillväxtstiftelsen in Jönköping County

Tillväxtstiftelsens  (The Growth Foundation) supports innovation and entrepreneurship in Jönköping County by providing loans, grants, and scholarships to early-stage businesses. Managed by Science Park, the foundation also organizes workshops and seminars to promote business development, research and new ideas. The foundation’s long-term funding is made possible by donations from companies, organizations, and private individuals.
